Ever since I saw Clerks forever ago I've been a Kevin Smith fan having seen all of his major films...except this one. I'd meant to see it, but after missing it in theaters it sort of faded in obscurity because I didn't hear too much about it after that. Anyway, I finally got around to seeing it, and it's exactly what I expected. Which is great!
The story is very simple, two long time best friends are in desperate need of money and decide they can film a porno starring themselves and market it to their former classmates. This idea pretty obviously lends itself to comedy right off the bat, but it delivers pretty much everything you'd expect in a Kevin Smith movie, including some of Kevin's favorite actors. I was actually surprised that Kevin did not make a cameo himself in this movie.
The characters are very eccentric and there are plenty of dick jokes, perfect for that style of humor. The only thing I wasn't that big of a fan of was the typical romantic comedy aspects where an obvious misinterpretation totally blows up in ways that only would happen in a movie. Kind of annoying.
Basically, if you like Kevin Smith and crude humor, you'll love this movie. It has the same feel as his older movies like Mall Rats and Chasing Amy. If you don't like low-brow humor, skip it.
