Shutter Island

Here's a movie I really wanted to see in theaters, but it was at a time when I had very few theater-going friends, so I never got to see it. Leonardo DiCaprio is very possibly my favorite actor, he always gives a fantastic performance in all of his roles.

The movie centers around an island where the criminally insane are kept. Leo is a Marshall brought in to locate a missing person from the island. The further Leo (Teddy in the movie) and his partner Chuck delve into the case, the weirder everything gets.  Some of the twists in the movie including the major one are pretty predictable, but even if you knew the plot entirely the way the movie brings you to that point is incredibly engaging.

The cinematography and ambiance makes you uneasy right off the bat. The place is downright eerie as are the inhabitants, which should be expected I suppose.  I'd like to say that this thriller leaves nothing to be desired...but I do wish that it wasn't so easy to figure out the plot twists.  Besides that, this thriller leaves nothing to be desired.

If you're looking for a movie to keep you on edge in ways most movies fail to these days, check this one out.

Grade: B+
